More than 300 bombs from World War II were discovered at a construction site in Athens during a city planning project.

In the south of the Greek capital Athens, 314 bombs from the Second World War were discovered during work on a large-scale urban planning project. This is reported by Ekathimerini, UNN reports.

The mayor of Elliniko-Argiroupoli, Giannis Konstantatos, said that a cache of German-made bombs was found two meters deep under a former hobby club, kindergartens and sports facilities built for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

"Fortunately, there were no explosions or accidents. It's amazing how the entire airport and numerous municipal and civil aviation facilities operated in such a minefield," he said.

It is noted that a demining unit of the Greek army will be engaged in the neutralization of the bombs.
