Nearly 200,000 people have been affected by the Mayon Volcano in the Philippines. More than 5,000 people were evacuated due to heavy ashfall and pyroclastic flows.

In the Philippines, nearly 200,000 people have been affected by a powerful ashfall following the activity of the Mayon volcano, with over 5,000 forced to flee their homes. This was reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.
Details
According to authorities, at least 199,367 people in 124 villages, primarily in Albay province, have been affected. More than 5,450 residents were evacuated to temporary shelters.
The cause was the collapse of lava deposits on the southwestern slope of the volcano, which triggered a pyroclastic flow—a mixture of hot ash, gases, and rocks.
"The ashfall was so thick that there was no visibility even on the national road,"
Consequences for the region
Ash clouds covered more than 120 settlements, leading to traffic complications and damage to agricultural land.
According to local authorities, several animals, including water buffaloes, also perished.
"Some residents panicked, but we urged them to remain calm,"
The situation remains tense
Authorities are providing evacuees with food and protective equipment, and are also requiring proper ventilation in shelters due to the heat.
"It is calm again now, but the danger is always there,"
The Mayon volcano remains at alert level three on a five-point scale and is considered one of the most active in the country.
