Today, on August 8, all mountain climbers celebrate the International Mountaineering Day (Mountaineer's Day). The event was founded in honor of the first conquest of the highest mountain in the French Alps, Mont Blanc, UNN writes.

Many residents of the Chamonix Valley and travelers have tried to conquer Mont Blanc, whose absolute height is 4,810 meters above sea level.

The first people to conquer Mont Blanc were the mountaineer and physician Michel-Gabriel Packard and his guide Jacques Balma. On August 8, 1786, they reached the top of the mountain in 24 hours.

The highest mountain on Earth is Everest (Jomolungma) - 8849 meters above sea level. It was first conquered in 1953.

It is interesting that among the peaks whose height exceeds 7,000 meters, there are 4 that have never been conquered by humans: Gangkhar Puensum (7570 meters, Himalayas, 3 failed climbing attempts), Labuche Kang III (7250 meters, Himalayas, no attempts), Karjiang (7221, Himalayas, 2 failed attempts), Tongshangjiabu (7207, Himalayas, no attempts).
