Mother who hid the body of her two-year-old son in a closet after his death will be tried - the case has been sent to court

Prosecutors of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent to court an indictment against a 38-year-old resident of Brovary, who is accused of failing to provide assistance to her two-year-old son and maliciously failing to fulfill parental duties. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to UNN.

Details

According to the investigation, on the evening of April 23, the two-year-old boy fell ill, but the mother did not call an ambulance and did not attempt to provide him with the necessary help on her own. After some time, the child died.

According to the forensic medical examination, the cause of death was poisoning with antidepressants that the woman was taking.

After the death of her son, according to the investigation, the accused placed his body in a box and hid it in a closet. For several days, she told relatives that the boy was supposedly in the hospital. The child's body was discovered by law enforcement officers after the grandmother's appeal.

The woman's actions are classified under Article 166 and Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She is currently in custody. The older son was transferred to the care of relatives

- the statement reads.

In addition, earlier prosecutors notified the head of the department for prevention and protection of children's rights of the Brovary City Council's children's service of suspicion. According to the investigation, the official's negligence could have led to the child's death.

This case is not only about the criminal liability of the mother, but also a story about a child who was left without the most essential things – help, protection, and care. The two-year-old boy did not die due to an accident, but because the adult who was obliged to save him did not do so. Our duty is to ensure inevitable accountability for everyone whose actions or inaction led to this tragedy. That is why the prosecutor's office is holding not only the child's mother accountable, but also the official of the children's service who, according to the investigation, did not properly perform her official duties

- stated the head of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Dmytro Prokudin.
