Mobilization of prisoners: a draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada

A draft law has been submitted to the Ukrainian parliament that proposes early release from prison for those who agree to contract military service during the current conflict.

A draft law that would allow prisoners to be released from serving their sentences in case of military service has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, UNN reports.

The document was registered in the Rada today, on March 13.

Its full title is "Draft Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and Other Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Parole for Military Service under Contract during a Special Period.

As indicated in the draft law map, the document has been submitted to the management for consideration.

The Minister of Justice of Ukraine statedthat at least 50,000 people with criminal records who have served their sentences may be mobilized into the army to defend Ukraine.

In addition, Malyuska said that the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine will propose "more radical" steps to mobilize convicts. The ministry is also working on the issue of mobilizing prisoners.
