In Kyiv, a Maserati driver has been notified of suspicion for allegedly causing a multi-car crash while intoxicated in the Pechersk district, the Main Directorate of the National Police in the capital reported on Thursday, UNN writes.

Context

The 48-year-old driver of the passenger car was stopped by patrol police yesterday afternoon for a traffic violation. "The man showed signs of alcohol intoxication; however, he refused to undergo a sobriety test, locked himself in the car, and suddenly sped away from the scene," the police stated.

"Subsequently, while speeding, the offender lost control of the vehicle and collided with three parked cars near the Hryshko Botanical Garden," law enforcement officers reported.

As noted, "as a result of the impact, the 49-year-old driver of a KIA vehicle, who was inside the car, sustained physical injuries. The victim was hospitalized with fractured ribs, spinal injuries, and a severe head injury."

Law Enforcement Actions

The perpetrator of the accident was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Administrative materials were also filed against the offender under Part 1 of Article 130 of the Code of Administrative Offenses—driving while intoxicated. 

Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of road safety rules or operation of transport by persons driving in a state of intoxication

Investigators have prepared a motion to the court to remand the suspect in custody during the pre-trial investigation; the hearing regarding the preventive measure will take place today.

The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment.
