Economy Minister Marchenko said that negotiations on debt restructuring have been ongoing since the beginning of the year. This will allow Ukraine to save about $12 billion over the next 3 years, which will be directed to the security and defense sector.

Economy Minister Sergiy Marchenko said that the decision to restructure the debt was a difficult one, and the negotiations had been going on since the beginning of the year. He said this during a telethon, UNN reports.

The debt restructuring this year will allow us to save on debt service costs, as we have been pledging certain funds that are now being released. We manage to save about $12 billion over the next 3 years. We will use these funds to spend on the security and defense sector. This decision was quite difficult for our partners, and the negotiations lasted from the beginning of the year

On Monday, July 22, Ukraine reached an agreement with the Eurobondholders' Committee, which is an important step in the debt restructuring. This will save $11.4 billion in debt service over 3 years and $22.75 billion by 2033, freeing up resources for defense and social needs. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
