A 24-year-old man beat up a supermarket security guard because of a comment he made about the queue at the checkout. The victim sustained severe head injuries, and the attacker, who had a previous criminal record, was detained.

In Odesa region, a man is suspected of provoking a quarrel in a supermarket with a security guard and breaking his head, the regional police department reported, UNN reports.

The incident, which occurred in a shop in Izmail, was reported by a cashier. At the scene, the police found that "one of the visitors, trying to get to the cash register without waiting in line, began to quarrel with the security guard, who made a remark to him." "During the argument, the citizen punched the store employee in the face, causing him to fall and lose consciousness," the police said.

The 54-year-old victim was reportedly called an ambulance. Medics took him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a closed head injury, brain contusion and fractures of several skull bones. According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the injuries sustained by the man are classified as severe.

"The attacker fled the scene, but the police quickly identified him and found him in another part of the city in an hour. He was a 24-year-old resident of the Safianivka community who had already been on the radar of law enforcement. Last year, he was convicted of inflicting light bodily harm on a fellow villager and was sentenced to a fine," the police said.

At present, the defendant has been served a notice of suspicion of intentional grievous bodily harm that was life-threatening at the time of infliction. According to the sanction of Part 1 of Art. 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to eight years. By the court decision, the suspect was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of round-the-clock house arrest for the duration of the investigation.
