Japan allocated over UAH 1 billion in grants, funds to be used for demining and medicine – Svyrydenko

The government directed the JICA grant towards equipment for the State Emergency Service and equipment for the Ministry of Internal Affairs hospitals. The funds will be used to strengthen sappers and rehabilitate wounded soldiers.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to allocate UAH 1.1 billion in grant funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for demining and medical assistance needs. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, as reported by UNN.

According to her, the main part of the funding will be directed to strengthening the capabilities of the State Emergency Service.

The State Emergency Service will receive equipment to strengthen the capabilities of sappers for the amount of UAH 984 million: from demining equipment and protective gear to educating the population on mine safety rules.

– Svyrydenko noted.

Another UAH 140 million is provided for the medical system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This involves the purchase of equipment for the treatment and rehabilitation of the wounded, including those who suffered mine-blast injuries.

The government is moving to the practical implementation of agreements with the Japanese side that were reached earlier.

It is noted that the funding is provided within the framework of JICA grant assistance and is aimed at overcoming the consequences of the war and improving the safety of the population.
