A 28-year-old Ukrainian evader fell into a deep ravine in the Maramures mountains. The man was saved from frostbite by a cat that warmed him for more than a day while 15 rescuers performed a 5-hour operation.

Mountain rescuers, together with the border police, managed to pull out the Ukrainian and the cat as safely as possible. The rescue operation lasted more than five hours, and 15 mountain rescuers participated in it.

As it turned out, the evader pulled out of the ravine did not act alone. Two more Ukrainians crossed the border with Romania. They were later found using a SMURD helicopter.
