The Tartu court found Andrei Makarov guilty of treason. He collected data on military equipment for the Russian Federation, organized the arson of a car with Ukrainian license plates, and monitored a Russian citizen in Lithuania.

In Estonia, the Tartu County Court found a citizen of this country, Andrei Makarov, who also holds Russian citizenship, guilty of treason. This was reported by the local publication ERR, UNN informs.
Details
It is noted that Makarov was accused of instructing to record military equipment, its movements, and data on allied troops in Latvia no later than 2022 and to transmit the collected information to the Russian Federation.
In addition, in early 2024, he received instructions from Russia to set fire to a car with Ukrainian license plates in Tartu. Makarov tried to associate this attack with the KOOS political party, scratching the party's name in large letters on the hood of the burnt car and leaving a message on the bottle with the incendiary mixture calling on Ukrainians to go home.

The authors clarify that after the arson, the accused filmed the car and posted it on Telegram, from where it was distributed by other social networks. After that, the accused returned to Russian Pskov.
Another accusation concerned the surveillance of a former serviceman of the Russian Federation who fled Russia and resided in Lithuania, which was entrusted to Makarov in 2024. According to the prosecution, the accused arrived in Vilnius, ... secretly observed his actions there, filming with various technical devices, after which he went back to Estonia
It is reported that the court found sufficient and convincing evidence that Makarov deliberately committed treason and that his actions were based on ideological beliefs. As punishment, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
