In Donetsk region, a Russian commander who ordered to "kill everyone" during the assault on a village has been identified

Ukrainian law enforcement officers have identified a Russian commander who, during the assault on the village of Shandryholove in the Donetsk region, ordered his subordinates to "kill everyone indiscriminately" and conduct a "cleansing" of residential buildings with civilians. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to UNN.

Details

According to the investigation, the individual is a junior lieutenant of the Russian Armed Forces—a commander of an assault platoon of an assault company of a motorized rifle battalion of the 237th Tank Regiment of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Army of the Moscow Military District.

Prosecutors of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office have notified him in absentia of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.

The investigation established that on September 17, 2025, during an attempted assault on the village of Shandryholove in the Lyman community, the suspect directed the "cleansing" of residential areas via radio communication.

Inside the houses were unarmed civilian residents who were not participating in the hostilities.

Despite this, the Russian commander ordered his subordinates to enter the houses ready to "kill everything living," as well as to use grenades and small arms.

"Kill everyone indiscriminately... Clear all the houses... eliminate everyone"

— such orders were heard over the radio.

As a result of following the order, Russian military personnel killed at least one local resident. Afterward, the body of the deceased was hidden on the territory of a private property in an attempt to conceal the traces of the crime.

The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized that attacks on civilians are a gross violation of international humanitarian law, and issuing such orders is qualified as a war crime.
