Kyiv • UNN
Israel is working on building an alternative port in Larnaca, Cyprus, to prepare for a potential war with Hezbollah, which could close the port of Haifa.
Simultaneously with the American initiative to create a pier in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid, Israel is working on building an alternative pier in Cyprus in response to the threat of a full-scale war with Hezbollah. This is reported by Israelhayom, according to UNN.
Details
The Israeli Ministry of Transportation has reportedly set a goal to create another port in Larnaca within 60 days. The port is planned to be built in accordance with the American schedule for the creation of a floating pier off the Gaza coast to transfer humanitarian aid.
On March 11, an Israeli delegation traveled to Cyprus to consider the creation of a port as a response to various security scenarios. According to the Israeli Ministry of Transportation , the cost of the port is estimated at hundreds of millions.
As noted, contrary to various publications, the main purpose of the port is not to transfer aid to Gaza, but to respond to the situation when the port of Haifa is closed in the event of a war with Hezbollah.
This is a comprehensive interagency training designed to prepare Israel for the outbreak of war from the north. The port in Larnaca is an urgent need for Israel to avoid a situation where it will be cut off for commercial purposes and to ensure that it is supplied during the war
According to the agency's source, the creation of the port is also an encouraging future aspect - it should become part of an alternative transportation route that is supposed to be created as part of the normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia and connecting Europe and India via Israel.
