Péter Magyar has agreed to open a negotiation cluster for Ukraine after changes to the minority protection plan. Compliance with the conditions will be monitored by the European Commission and the European Council.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has agreed to open the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine following Kyiv's decision to amend the national minority protection plan in a version agreed upon with EU member states. He announced this on Facebook, UNN reports.
Details
According to Magyar, in just a few weeks, his government managed to resolve what his predecessor Viktor Orbán failed to achieve in ten years, and the rights of the Hungarian minority are now guaranteed.
"The historic agreement between Hungary and Ukraine on the educational, cultural, linguistic, and political rights of Transcarpathian Hungarians has become official. The Ukrainian side has undertaken to implement all points in the official report and has included the agreement in the EU Action Plan on minorities. In a few weeks, we managed to resolve a matter that the Orbán government could not solve in ten years,"
He emphasized that the fulfillment of the obligations stipulated by the agreement has now also become a requirement of the European Union. As Magyar noted, the fulfillment of these obligations will be constantly monitored by the European Commission and the European Council in the future.
"If Ukraine does not fulfill its obligations regarding the rights of the Hungarian minority within the established timeframe, it will not be able to move further in the process of joining the European Union,"
He added that the opening of the first negotiation cluster is only the first step in a long and complex process.
Reminder
The EU unanimously agreed to open the first negotiation cluster for Ukraine on June 15. Decisions regarding the other five areas will be made in June-July.
