A guitar used by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain during his last tour has been sold for more than $1.5 million, an auction house said on Friday, UNN reports citing AFP.

The American grunge icon played the sky-blue left-handed Fender Mustang during the In Utero tour, Julien's Auctions said in a statement.

Nirvana played their last concert on March 1, 1994 in Munich, Germany, and all available recordings from the concert confirm that Cobain played this guitar that night
Julien's listed the final sale price at $1,587,500.

Cobain committed suicide in April 1994 at the age of 27, at the height of his fame.
The Mustang guitar remained intact, unlike many that Cobain destroyed on stage.
In May, his smashed black Fender Stratocaster guitar was sold for $595,000 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City.
On Thursday, Julien's also sold a guitar that belonged to Eric Clapton for $1.27 million.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the two guitars will go to the mental health charity Kicking the Stigma.
