State Department: Ukraine and Russia are closer to a complete ceasefire than ever before
Kyiv • UNN
Washington is working to stop the fire between Ukraine and Russia. The US says the parties have never been so close to a complete ceasefire.
Ukraine and Russia are now "closer than ever before" to starting a full ceasefire. This was stated by US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce, UNN reports.
Details
According to her, Washington is now working "on only one issue, and that is a ceasefire."
I can't say anything about what will happen after the ceasefire, but the ceasefire must be fully implemented. We are close to this. And here's what's interesting: we have never been so close to a full ceasefire
At the same time, according to her, a lasting peace will be discussed only after a full ceasefire, and this scenario is real, because "it has already happened in the history of mankind." At the same time, the American side is currently discussing with Ukraine and Russia the possibility of extending the ceasefire regime to the Black Sea.
The goal now is to fully restore peaceful commercial activity. The Black Sea is, of course, key to this. We continue to contact both Russia and Ukraine
She added that Washington intends to continue working to "patch this gap."
Reminder
A few hours ago, negotiations between the US and Russian delegations ended in Riyadh. The meeting lasted more than 12 hours. Prior to that, the US met with the Ukrainian delegation.
Later it became known that a joint statement by Russia and the United States following the talks in Riyadh will be published on March 25.
