Transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine will stop from January 1, 2025. The Ministry of energy and the Ukrainian GTS operator confirm the refusal to extend the contract with Gazprom and the development of alternative routes.

This winter, namely from January 1, the supply of Russian gas through Ukraine will stop. This was stated by Deputy Minister for digital development, digital transformation and digitalization Roman andarak during the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue .

"An interesting element of this winter is the suspension of Russian gas transit. In fact, what seemed impossible a few years ago is becoming a reality. From January 1, everything indicates that the transit of Russian gas will stop," andarak said.

According to him, this decision will not be a decisive element in the energy situation in the region.

"Here we are trying to develop alternative routes and ways to supply gas from other  sources," he added.

General Director of the Ukrainian GTS operator Dmytro Lippa said that there is definitely no issue of extending the contract with the Russian Federation.:

We are not considering extending the contract. Our baseline scenario is to stop the flow of Russian gas through the gas transmission systems of Ukraine. These are the things we are planning for next year.
