The Attorneys General of New York and New Jersey have launched an investigation into FIFA's ticketing practices for the 2026 World Cup. Officials are examining whether consumer rights were violated due to sharp price increases and changes in stadium seating arrangements. This was reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.

According to the investigation, FIFA received subpoenas demanding information on the use of a "dynamic pricing" system, which caused the cost of tickets for many matches to rise significantly. Fan complaints regarding changes to stadium layouts, which resulted in purchased seats being further from the field than expected, are also being investigated.
"New Yorkers have waited years for the World Cup to come to their backyard, and they deserve a fair shot at getting affordable tickets,"
She added: "No one should be manipulated into paying sky-high prices for seats, and fans should be confident that the tickets they buy will be the ones they get."
New Jersey Acting Attorney General Jennifer Davenport accused FIFA of creating an "ordeal of confusion, false scarcity, and incredibly high prices." According to her, hosting the tournament is an honor for the state, "but this event is not an invitation to exploit our residents and visitors."
FIFA declined to comment. The 2026 World Cup final is scheduled to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
