Earth hit by a strong red-level geomagnetic storm with K-index 6
Kyiv • UNN
The geomagnetic storm's intensity will peak on April 18 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Disruptions to GPS navigation, satellite communications, and electrical appliances are possible.

On Saturday, April 18, a strong magnetic storm will continue on Earth. Its intensity has increased to a K-index of 6, which corresponds to the red level. This is reported by UNN with reference to data from Meteoagent and the British Geological Survey.
Details
The magnetic storm will last throughout Saturday, and its impact will be most noticeable in the afternoon. According to forecasts, the greatest activity will occur between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM Kyiv time.
It is during these hours that the Earth's geomagnetic field will experience the strongest influence, and the storm's strength will reach its maximum.
In addition, magnetic storms can affect the Earth differently depending on their intensity. During strong flares, the quality of satellite communications and navigation may decrease.
In particular, this can lead to temporary malfunctions in GPS systems. Interruptions in the operation of some electrical devices and equipment that depend on satellite positioning are also not excluded.
Recall
Ukrainians were warned about a strong magnetic storm. On April 18, the peak of geomagnetic activity of a strong storm level is expected. Experts advise monitoring water balance, sleep patterns, and avoiding overwork.
