Polish President Duda says he will hand over MiG-29s to Ukraine only after NATO guarantees the safety of Poland's skies. The country expects the deployment of NATO aircraft to protect its airspace.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said that further transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine is possible only if the skies over Poland are protected by the equipment of other NATO countries. He said this at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on November 13 in Warsaw, UNN reports.

According to the Polish president's office, the talks focused on the possible transfer of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. "We discussed the issue of our MiG-29s, which we still have, because for some time we have transferred some of our MiGs to Ukraine," Duda said.
"We use these MiGs," Duda reminded. - "If we transfer them, there is one fundamental condition: our skies must be secure. We are talking about the North Atlantic Alliance ensuring the safety of our skies by moving aircraft from other NATO countries to ensure the safety of the airspace over Poland.
The President of Poland noted that Russian provocations and violations of NATO airspace continue to occur, in particular, there is a potential threat from Russian missiles over the Baltic Sea, which have already entered Polish airspace several times. "Securing the skies over our eastern flank is absolutely obvious, fundamental and principled for us, and we will not back down from this. Until we have full guarantees here, we cannot transfer our aircraft," he said.
Duda added that NATO supports Ukraine and for us "it is obvious that we must do everything to prevent Russia from winning this war." "We, as the free world, must stop Russia. We are talking about the effective organization of assistance to Ukraine by NATO countries," he said.
