According to the document, the 41-year-old Busch died of hemorrhagic shock and disseminated intravascular coagulation. The certificate states that before the development of sepsis, the athlete had symptoms of bacterial pneumonia for "several days to several weeks."
Medical officials indicated that the death occurred by natural causes. Following an autopsy in Mooresville, North Carolina, Busch's body was cremated.
The driver's family previously reported that a severe form of pneumonia quickly developed into sepsis and caused serious complications. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition where the body overreacts to an infection, which can lead to tissue and organ damage.
