The crash of two helicopters of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces in the Pacific Ocean killed one person and left seven missing, Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara said. An SH60K (Mitsubishi) helicopter disappeared from radar near Torishima Island. About half an hour later, another aircraft stopped communicating from there. Later, search engines found their wreckage.
There were eight people on board the helicopters. One was found alive, his condition has not yet been reported.
According to media reports, last night both vessels took part in submarine detection exercises.
