A person died suddenly in Kyiv near the "Polytechnic Institute" metro station. Due to the tragedy, the metro will review algorithms for the use of defibrillators and coordination, the utility company "Kyiv Metropoliten" reported on Saturday, according to UNN.

"On Friday evening, near the 'Polytechnic Institute' metro station (near the Smart Plaza Polytech shopping center), a tragic event occurred: a person suddenly fell ill. We express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased," the utility company stated.

The metro administration noted that "the situation caused a public outcry and showed that every stage of the response, the interaction of services, and current procedures in such emergency cases must be analyzed."

"Information is currently being collected from all employees who were at the station to work out the chronology of the event and the circumstances in detail. Based on the results, the current algorithms for interaction between metro employees and the police will be reviewed. Specifically, for cases that occur near metro stations," the statement reads.

As noted by the subway administration, automatic external defibrillators appeared at Kyiv metro stations in 2020. Since then, they have been used dozens of times to provide first aid and have repeatedly helped save passengers' lives. They are used in accordance with approved algorithms.

"This tragic situation once again confirms how critically important the availability of automatic external defibrillators is in crowded places. Therefore, the metro, together with police officers and taking the situation into account, will review the algorithms for using defibrillators," the metro administration emphasized.
