Great Britain is deploying a warship to the Middle East ahead of a potential mission to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the country's Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday, UNN reports citing CNN.

The Ministry stated that the Royal Navy ship HMS Dragon will support mine clearance efforts and the protection of vessels as part of a "strictly defensive" plan.
"The forward deployment of HMS Dragon is part of prudent planning that will ensure the UK is ready, as part of a multinational coalition co-led by the UK and France, to ensure the security of the strait when conditions allow," a ministry spokesperson said.
