A part of the funicular support on the territory of the Tunektepe cable car broke off and hit one of the cabins, destroying its floor, and the people inside fell onto a rocky area.
According to the head of Turkey's Disaster Management and Emergency Response Authority (AFAD), Okay Memis, 128 people have been evacuated from the booths that were hanging in the air.
There are still 43 people in eight booths, and their evacuation is ongoing, he said.
According to Memis, the rescue operations are being carried out in coordination with the Antalya Municipality, the Coast Guard, the Gendarmerie, the police and non-governmental organizations.
The operation involves 500 personnel and helicopters, and is complicated by unfavorable weather conditions.
"We hope to complete the operation before dark," he said.
