75% of Ukrainians do not trust Poroshenko due to enrichment, scandals and sanctions - expert

The level of distrust of Ukrainians towards Petro Poroshenko has increased to a record 75% in recent years due to enrichment during the war, sanctions and suspicion of treason. This is written by political scientist Petro Oleshchuk, commenting on the results of a new study by the Razumkov Center.

According to the expert, the record increase in public distrust of Poroshenko over the past two years of the war is a natural phenomenon, which is accompanied by an increasingly deep disappointment of citizens in the leader of European Solidarity. Also, Oleshchuk compares Poroshenko with the former leader of the banned OPZZh Boyko, explaining this by the fact that both politicians have been cooperating with Russia for decades, and today both the first and the second call themselves the opposition.

"Over the past two years of the war, the attitude towards Poroshenko has deteriorated from 65% to 75% of popular distrust. If he is such a patriot and has been donating to the Armed Forces all this time, as he says so well, then where did this slide into the abyss of disappointment come from?" - Oleshchuk asks a rhetorical question.

The political scientist names three main factors that contributed to this decline.

"Firstly, it is Poroshenko's significant enrichment during the war, when the MP was spinning Ukrainians' donations through his bank at interest and earning on military bonds. What adds to the cynicism is that this earning is not just from the people, but also from blood. For this, in particular, he received sanctions, and the society only applauded," the expert emphasizes.

The second factor, according to Oleshchuk, is hypocrisy, when Poroshenko's PR actions contrast with his real actions.

"Drones purchased with Ukrainians' donations are lying in warehouses. They cannot be handed over to the military until Poroshenko returns from vacation abroad to shoot a dramatic video. In the meantime, his evading sons are enjoying life in London," says Oleshchuk.

The third reason for the decline in confidence in the politician, according to the expert, is sanctions and suspicion of treason related to "Poroshenko's long-term cooperation with Russia, accusations of lobbying for the deployment of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, deals with Hryhorchuk and Medvedchuk, trade in coal with ORDLO and ties with the UOC MP."

"Ukraine is feeling the consequences of what Poroshenko did today. These 75% do not just distrust him, they hate him. Because now Ukraine is bleeding precisely from the one whom Poroshenko shook hands with and hugged, with whom he traded, flirted, and ultimately brought here," the political scientist summarizes.

As you know, the Razumkov Center published the results of a sociological study, which recorded a sharp increase in distrust of Ukrainians towards Petro Poroshenko: in two years of war, the distrust rate increased from 65% to 75%. As you know, sanctions were previously imposed on Poroshenko, and he himself is a suspect in the case of treason due to accusations of trading with terrorists from ORDLO.
