Ukrainian athlete, international master Roman Degtyarov won the European Championship in Katowice, Poland. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Chess Federation of Ukraine.

The 17-year-old Kharkiv resident, who had only the 126th starting rating among almost 500 participants, defeated experienced Spanish grandmaster David Anton in the final round. Degtyarov scored 9 points out of 11 possible and took first place alone.
