Xi Jinping was born on June 15, 1953, in Beijing, China. His father, Xi Zhongxun, was a high-ranking member of the Communist Party of China. He studied at Tsinghua University, where he received a doctorate in law and ideology in 2002. He began his career in party organs in the 1970s, holding various positions in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. Since 2012, he has been the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and since 2013, he has been the President of the People's Republic of China.
