The fires occurred in a forested area in the Gaziemir and Budzha districts yesterday, July 18. This caused disruptions in the operation of the international airport in Izmir. In the evening, the flames reached residential areas. There is no information about the victims.

Seven airplanes, 16 helicopters, 35 ground vehicles, 11 water trucks and four bulldozers were involved in the firefighting operations. Two night vision helicopters also arrived at the fire area after dark.

Large forest fires break out annually in Turkey in the summer. In 2023, the fires spread to several provinces. Russia sent two Be-200NS aircraft to help extinguish the fires.
