WHO: $135 million needed to tackle monkeypox outbreak

WHO reports the need for $135 million to fight monkeypox within 6 months. Currently, more than 100 thousand cases have been recorded, 90% of new cases are in the DR Congo.
To overcome the outbreak of monkeypox, $135 million is needed for the next six months. This is reported by the WHO, UNN reports.

The WHO has announced that since the start of the global monkeypox outbreak in 2022, more than 100,000 confirmed cases have been recorded. The Democratic Republic of Congo is the center of the outbreak, with 90% of new cases this year.
In this regard, the WHO has developed a Global Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan, which includes improved surveillance, research and access to medical supplies. The plans also include a $135 million funding boost to address the outbreak in the next six months.
The WHO called for global solidarity and coordination between international and national partners to respond effectively to the situation.
