Italy is ready to finance the restoration of damaged Ukrainian HPPs and PSPs for EUR 200 million. The funds will be allocated under a loan agreement between the EBRD and the Italian government to support Ukraine's energy security.

Italy seeks to provide financial support to Ukrainian hydroelectric power plants and pumped storage plants damaged by numerous shelling by Russia. This was stated by Ukrhydroenergo, UNN reports .

Details

Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, met with Carlo Formosa, Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Natalia Boyko  and member of the Supervisory Board Vitaliy Kushnirov.

The main topic of the meeting  was the discussion of Italian support for the restoration of Ukrainian hydropower under a loan agreement between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Italian government, which provides for the allocation of 200 million euros to restore Ukrhydroenergo's hydroelectric power plants damaged by rocket attacks.

In his turn, the Italian diplomat confirmed Italy's readiness to finance the restoration of part of Ukraine's energy sector.

We recognize the importance of this infrastructure for Ukraine and are impressed by the heroism of Ukrainian power engineers who continue to work in the face of extraordinary challenges. We will actively contribute to the implementation of restoration projects

Both sides reaffirmed their desire to strengthen cooperation and identified priority areas for joint energy projects.

Addendum

In winter, on February 17, 2024, an important Guarantee Agreement was signed between Ukraine, the EBRD and the Government of Italy to support the Emergency Hydropower Rehabilitation Project. On the Italian side, the document was signed by the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. On the same day, a loan agreement was signed between Ukrhydroenergo and the EBRD.
