The Ukrainian Defense Forces allegedly used British Challenger 2 tanks during an offensive in the Kursk region. Sky News reports citing its own sources, UNN reports.

Details

The publication noted that this may be the first time that British tanks have been used by the Ukrainian military in combat on the territory of Russia.

It is noted that the UK has confirmed that Ukraine can freely use British weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation, in accordance with government policy. The TV channel's source said that this applies to Challenger 2 tanks and indicated that they were used during the Ukrainian operation that began on August 6.

Details on how and when Ukrainian troops deployed Challenger 2 tanks in the Kursk region of Russia are not known. Nor is it known how many tanks were involved in the breakthrough.

Addendum

The journalists noted that the  82nd Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which is taking part in the Kursk operation, is armed with British battle tanks.

As you know, London has agreed to transfer 14 of its Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine in January 2023, prompting Germany and the United States to provide their tanks.

According to UK government policy, the use of any weapons provided to Ukraine must comply with international law. Military assistance is aimed at helping the Ukrainian military defend itself against Russian aggression.

Recall

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that Ukraine is not interested in occupying Russia's border regions, including the Kursk region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are performing tasks related to ensuring security around Ukraine's borders.
