Ukraine spent UAH 1.6 trillion on defense in 10 months - Ministry of Finance

In the first 10 months of 2024, Ukraine allocated 58.3% of its budget to the security and defense sector. The funds were spent on military equipment, weapons, military supplies and other defense needs.

In January-October 2024, Ukraine spent UAH 1.6 trillion on the security and defense sector, which is more than half of the general fund of the state budget. This was announced on Tuesday, November 26, by the Ministry of Finance, UNN reports.

UAH 1.6 trillion was spent by the general fund of the state budget on the security and defense sector in January-October 2024. This is 58.3% of the total amount of expenditures of the general fund of the state budget. Of this amount, UAH 201.6 billion was spent from the state budget in October

- said the Ministry of Finance.

The funds were used to:

  • financial support for military personnel, rank-and-file and senior officers, and police officers;
  • purchase of military/special equipment, weapons, ammunition, defense products, personal protective equipment (helmets, body armor and other special equipment), fuel and lubricants, and food;
  • medical support;
  • other expenses to support the activities of the relevant bodies and formations.

The Ministry emphasized that security and defense remains the largest item of state budget expenditures. They also noted that military expenditures are covered exclusively by domestic revenues and borrowings.

In the state budget for 2025, the main item of expenditures - is also defense. 22.1% or UAH 1.69 trillion will be allocated for the security and defense forces. There are also expenditures for the development of the defense industry : UAH 43 billion for the production of UAVs, as well as UAH 43 billion for the production of ammunition and weapons.
