Ukraine evacuates 30 citizens from Lebanon due to deteriorating security: what is known

The DIU and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the evacuation of 30 Ukrainians from Lebanon due to the deteriorating security situation. The evacuees, including 21 women and 9 children, arrived in Poland and are receiving the necessary assistance.

Ukraine has evacuated thirty citizens from Lebanon, where the security situation has deteriorated sharply. The evacuation was organized by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNN reports with reference to the Main Intelligence Directorate.

"On August 3, pursuant to the order of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  jointly organized the evacuation of thirty of our citizens from Lebanon, where the security situation has deteriorated sharply," the statement said.

According to the DIU, the Ukrainians, including 21 women and nine children, have already arrived in Rzeszow, Poland, and are safe. They were met by Ukrainian consuls and representatives of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The evacuees are being provided with all the necessary assistance and escorted to our country.

"Ukraine became one of the first countries in the world to successfully evacuate its citizens from Lebanon. As in previous cases of crises and armed conflicts abroad, Ukraine demonstrates leadership in caring for its people," the statement said.

Ukrainian diplomats warned our citizens in Lebanon about the danger and recommended that they leave the country in advance.

The report states that employees of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine  continue to work to provide assistance to Ukrainian citizens in Lebanon. Work continues on the possibility of further evacuation of other Ukrainians who wish to leave Lebanese territory.

Citizens wishing to leave Lebanon in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should contact the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Lebanon by phone (+961) 5921668 or e-mail: [email protected].

These contacts should also be used by citizens of Ukraine who are in an emergency situation or face a threat to life and health.

Citizens who have made a personal decision to extend their stay in Lebanon are advised to avoid crowded places, not to participate in demonstrations, strictly observe security measures and rules of stay of foreigners in the country, comply with the lawful requirements of law enforcement agencies, follow the messages of local authorities on the development of the situation, do not leave their place of residence unless absolutely necessary, always have their identity documents with them, and consider reducing the duration of their stay.

During their stay in Lebanon, citizens of Ukraine are also advised to refrain from traveling to the territories bordering the Syrian border; bordering the Israeli border south of the Litani River; to the refugee camps of Nahr al-Bared and Beddawi (near Tripoli), Ain al-Hilweh and Mieh Mieh (near Sayda); the Bekaa Valley; and the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh district).

The security of Ukrainian citizens is an absolute priority and  the key task of the state. This applies to Ukrainian citizens in any corner of the world, under any circumstances and at any distance from their homeland. Ukraine never leaves its people in trouble.
