Ukraine discusses integration of legislation into EU norms with northern partners

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine met with advisors from the Nordic and Baltic countries. They discussed the adaptation of security legislation to EU standards and the reform of law enforcement agencies.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Oleksiy Serhiyev met with advisors of the High Level Advisory Group of eight Nordic and Baltic countries. The purpose of the talks was to discuss areas for further joint work on the adaptation of national security legislation to EU standards.

Ukraine is in the process of conducting an official screening of its national legislation for compliance with EU law, which involves the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. This concerns such fundamental areas as "Fighting Organized Crime", "Police Cooperation", "Schengen and External Borders", "Migration and Asylum"

- said Oleksiy Sergeyev.

The importance of these aspects is emphasized by the fact that they are within the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other central executive authorities in Ukraine. The main priorities are not only the implementation of EU legislation, but also the enhancement of the institutional capacity of law enforcement agencies.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized that law enforcement reform is one of the key conditions for Ukraine's accession to the EU. Foreign partners expressed their readiness to provide all necessary support, including through strategic political advice and recommendations.
