The government approved a low-carbon development strategy until 2050 and updated the climate plan. This is expected to attract EU funds and accelerate GDP growth.

Ukraine has approved a strategy for the decarbonization of its economy as part of its adaptation to European climate policy, defining directions that should allow for the attraction of resources from the EU; the climate plan has also been updated, the Ministry of Economy reported on Friday, UNN writes.
The Government has approved the Long-term Low-Emission Development Strategy of Ukraine until 2050
The document, as stated, "defines the vision and key directions for the decarbonization of the economy and creates a unified framework for coordinating the actions of the state, business, and international partners on the path to climate neutrality."
Expected results:
- additional GDP growth of up to +2.1% by 2035;
- reduction of the energy intensity of the economy by more than half;
- development of new sectors (biomethane, hydrogen, CO₂ capture and storage technologies);
- over 4 GW of distributed generation;
- creation of new green jobs and support for regional transformation;
- increased investment in modernization and energy efficiency.
The implementation of the strategy is expected to "help adapt the economy to European climate policy, in particular CBAM, and expand access to EU climate funds and financial instruments."
The National Energy and Climate Plan has been updated
Ukraine has also "updated the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) until 2030," the Ministry of Economy reported.
The updated document reportedly takes into account economic recovery, strengthening energy security, and the course toward EU membership, and also defines key state policy priorities in energy and climate for the coming years.
"The NECP is aimed at fulfilling international obligations within the Ukraine Facility and takes into account the recommendations of the European Commission from the report on Ukraine's progress within the 2025 EU enlargement package," the statement reads.
The plan covers 5 key areas:
- decarbonization (including renewables);
- energy efficiency;
- energy security;
- internal energy market;
- research, innovation, and competitiveness.
The document also contains analytical modeling of the feasibility of goals and will eventually become the basis for forming new investment projects in the fields of energy and climate, the Ministry of Economy noted.
