Two clerics of the UOC-MP in Zakarpattia face up to 5 years in prison for spreading communist narratives, distributing banned symbols and slogans, and propagandizing for the totalitarian regime through their social media accounts.

In Transcarpathia, a pre-trial investigation into the anti-Ukrainian activities of two clerics of the UOC-MP has been completed, and indictments have been sent to court. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine, UNN reports.

Police in Zakarpattia region have completed a pre-trial investigation into the anti-Ukrainian activities of two rectors of churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the moscow Patriarchate, who were suspected by the SBU in February for spreading communist symbols. 

The investigation found that a 30-year-old and a 43-year-old cleric from the Tyachiv district publicly imposed the narratives of the communist regime on the audience through their social media accounts.

The men distributed symbols and russian slogans banned in Ukraine and promoted a totalitarian regime

- the statement said.

The case file has been submitted for trial, the defendants are charged with Part 1 of Article 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (production, distribution of communist and Nazi symbols and propaganda of communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes). According to the sanction of the article, they face up to 5 years in prison with confiscation of property.
