Turkish opposition leader Mehmet Palaz died after a balcony collapsed while celebrating his victory in the local elections.
In Turkey, the deputy head of the opposition Republican People's Party's branch, Mehmet Palaz, died as a result of a balcony collapse during the celebration of the election victory. According to the Milliyet newspaper, he died in hospital from his injuries, UNN reports .

The day before, it became known that a member of the Republican People's Party, Kadir Tatik, had won the elections in the Tavak district. His supporters celebrated the victory on the street in front of the party building.
According to Milliyet, when some people went up to the second floor of the building, one of the balconies collapsed. As a result, eight people were injured, three of them in serious condition.
When the balcony collapsed, Mehmet Palaz was hit in the head. He was hospitalized at the city hospital in Pamukkale. He died on April 1.
Context
Municipal elections in Turkey were held on March 31. In many large cities, including Ankara and Istanbul, opposition representatives won the majority. Overall, the country's turnout was almost 77%. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan conceded his party's defeat even before the votes were counted and called the elections "the beginning of a turning point.
