Details
If this happens, it will be Witkoff's third meeting with the Russian dictator, as Trump insists on a ceasefire in Russia's war against Ukraine.
Trump is currently unhappy that negotiations have not made much progress in recent weeks. At one point, he even said he was "furious" with Putin's comments about Ukraine.
If a ceasefire is not reached by the end of the month, Trump may enact additional sanctions against Russia, either through the executive branch or by asking Congress to pass new sanctions legislation.
We will know soon enough, within weeks, not months, whether Russia is serious about peace or not. I hope so,
At the same time, Trump is doing everything possible to demonstrate that he has everything under control and that a ceasefire will be reached in the near future.
We are making progress. We hope that we are quite close to reaching an agreement between Russia and Ukraine on the cessation of hostilities,
Addition
The United States and Russia reached a prisoner exchange agreement on Thursday that included the release of US and Russian citizen Ksenia Karelina. Negotiations on the operation were the result of a previous meeting between Witkoff and Putin in March.
