According to Trump, the possible arrival of the Chinese leader was one of the arguments in favor of building a new large ballroom in the White House.
For example, President Xi is coming here... closer to the end of September 24, I think. We need a large ballroom, we could accommodate thousands of people to see him. Everyone wants to see him
The visit may coincide with the UN General Assembly
The likely date of the visit coincides with the session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Trump himself is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 22 and traditionally holds meetings with world leaders during this period.
Bloomberg notes that Trump had previously spoken about his intention to host Xi Jinping in September, but for the first time named an approximate date. Despite some progress in relations between Washington and Beijing, the sides still have differences over trade, Taiwan, and the situation in the Middle East.
