US President Donald Trump stated that any damages to ships will be paid from Iranian funds controlled by the US. This came after a Houthi attack on Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that any damage caused to ships or cargo "will be paid for from Iranian funds that the United States has at its disposal and controls," writes UNN.
Please let this statement serve to represent, until further notice, that from this point forth, any and all damages done to Ships, Cargo, or anything related thereto, will be paid for by Iranian Money that the United States has in its possession, and controls. These damages may be very substantial but, nevertheless, this is the fair and equitable thing to do
This post came after Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked Saudi ships in the Red Sea, leading to oil prices rising to $100 per barrel for the first time since May of this year.
As CNN notes, it is difficult to name the final amount of frozen Iranian assets, which are distributed across various financial networks around the world. Iranian media and analysts estimate it in the range of $124 to $167 billion. But unfreezing these assets has been a key point for Tehran in the memorandum of understanding concluded between Iran and the United States in June — an agreement that neither side is adhering to, as military strikes in the region continue and Iran has repeatedly attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded by stating that "seizing another nation’s assets to pay for unrelated future claims is an incendiary precedent."
"Those who celebrate or profit from such funds should remember: once governments normalize confiscation, no one’s assets are safe," Araghchi said in a post to X Friday Iran time. "Ensuing chaos will not be pretty or peaceful."
