The Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia is investigating reports of the detention of a Ukrainian citizen during the protests in Tbilisi. The fact of the detained person's Ukrainian citizenship has not yet been confirmed by the Georgian side.
The embassy of Ukraine is in contact with the competent authorities of Georgia in the case of the detention of an alleged citizen of Ukraine among the protesters, but the fact of his citizenship has not yet been confirmed. This was reported to Novosti Georgia at the embassy of Ukraine, reports UNN.
"Requests were sent to the address of Rustavi-2 TV channel, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. Currently, we have received information from the Georgian Foreign Ministry, which at the same time does not confirm that the person belongs to the citizenship of Ukraine. A consular officer of the embassy was also at the court session, where the Georgian side did not provide documents confirming the citizenship of Ukraine," the embassy said.
The detention of the citizen in question in Tbilisi and the publication of information took place on the day when President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced sanctions against those involved in the dispersal of protests.
Given the aggravation of the internal political situation in Georgia, the Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia on December 1 recommended that Ukrainian citizens refrain from staying in crowded places and not take part in actions of a political nature.
