The United States has imposed sanctions on two leaders of the Cyber Army of Russia Reborn cybercrime group for attacks on critical infrastructure. CARR has been conducting DDoS attacks in Ukraine and manipulating industrial control systems in the United States and Europe.

Today, the United States imposed sanctions on Yulia Pankratova and Denis Degtyarenko, two members of the Russian hacker group Cyber Army of Russia Reborn (CARR), for their role in cyber operations against critical U.S. infrastructure

- the ministry said in a statement. 

The US Treasury Department also emphasizes that the defendants are directly in charge of the group. Accordingly, Pankratova is the leader of the group, and Degtyarenko is the main hacker.  

The agency explains that CARR's activities target critical infrastructure and "pose an unacceptable threat to our citizens and our communities with potentially dangerous consequences.

Since 2022, CARR has been conducting DDoS attacks in Ukraine and other Western countries. At the end of 2023, CARR began attacking the industrial control systems of several critical infrastructure facilities in the United States and Europe.

In particular, manipulations were carried out with the equipment of industrial control systems at water supply, hydropower, sewerage and energy facilities.
