The US has imposed sanctions on officials from China and Hong Kong over the security law. This is reported by AP, reports UNN.
Details
Among the sanctioned persons are the Minister of Justice of Hong Kong, the head of the city's police, his two deputies, a senior official from Beijing responsible for security issues in the region, and a representative of the Hong Kong Committee for the Protection of National Security. From now on, their assets in the United States will be frozen, and financial transactions will be blocked.
The American authorities noted that these officials contributed to the repression of almost two dozen pro-democracy activists, including one US citizen and four other people who have a residence permit in the country. Washington officially emphasized that such actions undermine Hong Kong's autonomy and violate China's international obligations.
