UK may introduce a tourist tax

In the UK, families traveling to popular domestic tourist destinations could face a tourist tax of up to £300 (approximately €347) as part of a Labour initiative to support municipalities, The Telegraph reports, according to UNN.

As The Telegraph has learned, mayors and local leaders across the country, from Whitby to Cromer, from Sandbanks to Bamburgh Castle, are planning to use new powers to introduce tourist taxes on domestic holidays.

Up to 10 of England's 14 regional mayors are planning or considering the introduction of a "tourist overnight tax," which threatens to increase the cost of family vacations.

The government stated it wants the new tax to be based on a percentage of the accommodation cost, but is also considering a flat-rate model.
