Spawning ban on fishing starts in Ukraine on April 1

In Ukraine, from April 1, the annual spring-summer spawning ban on fishing and other aquatic bioresources starts in most fishing waters, UNN writes with reference to the State Agency for Fisheries.

From April 1, the spawning ban on fishing starts in the country's water bodies. (...) Fishing during this period is allowed only from the shore outside spawning grounds with hook fishing gear with no more than two hooks per fisherman or spinning with one artificial lure.

- explained in the State Agency for Fisheries.

The duration of the spawning ban may vary depending on the region and water body. The exact dates can be found in Appendix 3 to the Rules of amateur fishing.

It is noted that in order to create favorable conditions for spawning, the movement of all vehicles and motor vessels (with the exception of established ship passages) is prohibited in water bodies at this time. This prohibition does not apply to vessels used by fisheries protection authorities and other authorized state authorities. Commercial fishing and underwater hunting are also prohibited.

What threatens for violation

Potential offenders are warned that failure to comply with these requirements is punishable by administrative fines to criminal liability. It is also possible to compensate for damages caused to the fish industry.

"Therefore, we warn fishermen against committing violations, especially considering the fact that during the spawning period, fisheries protection officers of the State Agency for Fisheries carry out control on water bodies in an enhanced mode," the agency warned.

They also reminded that the spawning period is extremely important for fish reproduction, so fishermen should behave responsibly.

Addition

The ban on fishing for pike in Ukraine lasted from February 15 to March 31. The restriction was in effect in the waters of Kyiv and a number of regions.
