The Kremlin is preparing Russians for a long war, not for peace – ISW
Kyiv • UNN
Putin told businessmen that the negotiations would be difficult, calling for preparation for a long war. Analysts predict that the Kremlin will continue to convince Russians of the protracted nature of the war.
The Russian leadership and personally the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are preparing Russians for a long war in Ukraine, not for a lasting peace built on compromises. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), reports UNN.
Details
It is noted that the latest statements by Putin and other Kremlin officials, which perpetuate narratives about the complexity of negotiations, the illegitimacy of Ukrainian officials, and disagreements between the United States and Europe, are reinforced by reports that Russia expects a long war in Ukraine and peace only on Moscow's terms.
In addition, Putin directly told Russian businessmen to prepare for a long war. According to Russian business journalists Farid Rustamov and Maxim Tovkailo, before the phone call with Trump, the Russian dictator held a private meeting with Russian businessmen at the congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Putin told businessmen that negotiations to end the war would be slow and difficult, and advised businessmen "not to be naive", given the people and issues involved in the negotiations.
According to them, Putin also publicly stated at the congress that Russia should not expect a quick lifting of sanctions from the West.
The Kremlin has long broadcast Russia's demands for territorial concessions and security concessions beyond the current front line as a return on investment for the Russian people to justify military efforts to its domestic audience.
According to their forecasts, Putin and other Kremlin officials are likely to continue to convey to the domestic audience that the war in Ukraine remains protracted for Russia and that Russia will not soon achieve peace in Ukraine.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Zakharova stated that Ukraine disrupted peace initiatives by attacking an oil depot in the Krasnodar Territory. According to her, the truce has already been violated by the "Kyiv regime."
