Incidence of ARVI is decreasing, but the epidemic threshold is still exceeded in 15 regions - Ministry of Health

In a week, more than 201,000 people in Ukraine fell ill with acute respiratory viral infections, influenza and COVID-19, of which 108,000 are children. An excess of the epidemic threshold is recorded in 15 regions.

Over the week, more than 201,000 people fell ill with ARVI, influenza, and COVID-19 in Ukraine, including 108,000 children. This is 16% less than the data from the previous week, but 15 regions still record an excess of the epidemic threshold, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on Wednesday, writes UNN.
From March 17 to 23, 201,700 people fell ill in the country, including 108,375 children. This is 16% less than the week before. The peak of morbidity for ARVI, influenza and COVID-19 was recorded in February, and now, in March, there is a decrease in the registration of new cases," - the Ministry of Health reported.
The incidence of acute respiratory infections, as indicated, "is caused by the circulation of influenza viruses in 21 regions of the country." From March 17 to 23, 6,176 people were hospitalized, including 3,567 children under the age of 17. Four deaths were registered as a result of complications of COVID-19 and 19 as a result of influenza. According to doctors, the deceased did not have preventive vaccinations against influenza and COVID-19.
According to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health, 1 fatal case of a person with pneumonia caused by the RS virus was also registered last week.
Currently, the excess of the epidemic threshold of the average level is registered in 10 regions: Volyn, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Cherkasy and Chernivtsi regions. A low level was registered in 5 other regions - Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Sumy and Chernihiv regions. In other regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv, the situation with epidemic activity is stable, a pre-epidemic level is observed. Compared to the previous epidemic season, the incidence rate is 9.4% lower.
Situation since the beginning of the epidemic season
In total, since the beginning of the epidemic season from September 30, 2024 to March 23, 2025, 3,703,067 people have had acute respiratory infections, which is 4.9% less than the same period of the 2023-2024 season.
Since the beginning of the current epidemic season, according to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health, the number of deaths from influenza and ARVI is 171 cases.
