First trailer for "Shrek 5" has been released

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the animated film "Shrek 5," UNN reports.

"It's happening... it's really happening! See 'Shrek 5' only in theaters in Summer 2027," the film company captioned the teaser trailer.

Universal released the trailer for "Shrek 5" on Tuesday, as noted by Variety, more than a year before its release on June 30, 2027. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz return as the voices of Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. They are joined by Zendaya, comedian Marcello Hernandez, star of "Saturday Night Live," and Skyler Gisondo ("Superman," "Focker-in-Law") in the roles of Shrek and Fiona's children, Felicia, Fergus, and Farkle.

The trailer begins with a storybook recounting the original story of Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey from their original 2001 film. Donkey interrupts the narration and says it's time for a makeover, which may explain the slightly different animation style of the fairy-tale creatures. The friends travel through the magical land of Far Far Away once again and encounter a giant, law enforcement officers, and a creepy snowman who is a parody of Olaf from "Frozen" — "Do you want to date a snowman?" — he asks from a dark alley. They also reunite with the Gingerbread Man. The trailer ends with Shrek, Fiona, their children, and Donkey locked in a prison cell while Donkey sings "Baby Come Back" and "Roxanne," much to Shrek's disappointment.

"Shrek 5" is the first installment in the franchise in 17 years, since "Shrek Forever After" in 2010. Since then, there have been two spin-offs: "Puss in Boots" in 2011 and its 2022 sequel "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish."
