It is expected that al-Bashir will be tasked with forming a new government to manage the transition period.
Several reports on Monday indicate that he met with the leader of the Islamist group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) Abu Muhammad al-Jolani and Mohammed al-Jalaali, who held the position of prime minister under the overthrown regime of Bashar al-Assad.
In 2021, after the Syrian uprising against Bashar Assad, al-Bashir joined "the ranks of revolutionaries in the military field".
From 2022 to 2023, Muhammad al-Bashir held the position of Minister of Development and Humanitarian Affairs, and then Prime Minister in the "National Salvation Government" in Idlib. That is, in the territory that was controlled by the largest opposition organization HTS before the overthrow of Assad and the capture of Damascus.
